Worldbuilding is one of the most important aspects of creative writing, especially for fantasy and sci-fi writers, but also for the rest of the writers out there. Having a well-rounded world with history as well as flora and fauna is so integral to the story for an ambiguous story element.
Flora, fauna, landscape, weather, history, and even governmental systems can all make or break a story. All these elements combine together to create the interesting backdrops for our stories and can be driving forces for our major conflicts.
Some writers also draw maps for their worlds. It can be a great way to visualise your story’s landscapes and visually plot out your story and the journey our heroes take. Plotting out the different sectors of our worlds and the terrain of said sections can be a great way to get continuity in our stories.
Whichever way you worldbuild, there’s no doubt that every story needs a well-developed world and setting.
