The Secret Runners of New York by Matthew Reilly

I’m back with another book recommendation! This time – The Secret Runners of New York by Matthew Reilly. Privilege, money, snotty prep-school kids. Sounds awful. Yet, Matthew Reilly took this and created one of the most fun, explosive and breathtaking YA novels I've read in a really long time.

The novel is startlingly original. Exclusive groups, portals, time travel, the apocalypse, revenge, action; the escapists dream. The whole novel is fast paced, keeping you on your toes (pun intended). While there are some reviewers taking points from Reilly for his “stereotypical teenage girls”, I have to confess, I met a lot of girls like that in my high school years, it’s a thing. It’s real.

It's hard to say too much more without giving spoilers since Reilley’s packed this one FULL of action, so I'll let you guys pick it up for yourselves if interested. If you’re looking for something different, whether you’re a reader of YA or maybe a little older, I think the plot and worldbuilding of The Secret Runners of New York will keep you turning those pages. This is one for the ages. One of my favourite books in the past couple of years. Still gets a recommendation from me.
