Poetry for Inspiration

Poetry is a very emotive and visual art. These emotions and images are often great inspiration for other artistic works like novels. Quick to read and full of moving themes and ideas, poetry can be a great way to gather inspiration for your own works.

Poetry is all-encompassing. It covers themes of almost every topic, emotion, or event. The well of inspiration is endless. Poems are quick to read and complex enough that a single poem can have a myriad of interpretations. Subject to individual perspectives, poetry can also change for each person over time.

Exploring poetry can seem daunting, especially if, like me, you struggle to understand the symbolism and veiled references that seem to make up a lot of poetry. However, if I've learnt anything from helping my best friend with her poetry, it’s that often lyric writing can explore and express the human experience and mind’s intricacies that prose often can’t. It's the physical manifestation of illogical, interlinking and inexplainable mental equations.
