The 21st is the International Day of Happiness! I'll admit, until recently, I had no idea this was a thing. But when I looked into it while putting together my content plan for March, I thought to myself, ‘why wouldn’t I celebrate this?’. For those of you who’ve been following my posts, you’ll have noticed my writing goals and updates often include mention of enjoying the writing process. You'll also have noticed, I’m not doing too great a job at this lately.
That's why I believe wholeheartedly in sharing and supporting this holiday. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Recently, I've been making good progress in my writing journey, and for the first time I am truly enjoying the work. Don't get me wrong, my anxiety and imposter-syndrome at editing my first ever manuscript are still rampant, but I'm choosing instead to focus on the acknowledgement that this is a pretty big milestone in my writing career.
The mission of the International Day of Happiness is “To serve as a beacon of light, inspiration, and hope for all who aspire to live happy and fulfilling lives”. The way I’m going to celebrate with you all is to share some of the things that make me happy.
My Writing Journey
Writing, editing and creating this blog content for you all is one passion that brings me a lot of joy. Even when it’s frustrating, daunting or seemingly stagnant, I never again want to step away from this work. I've only just returned to the scene and even in my darkest moments of the process I know I’m a better and happier person now than I was in my dark years. I never again want to feel the ambling, lost and hollow feelings I'd felt during those years.
Books
Reading brings me no end of joy. Luckily for me, I have a TBR pile that could last me a couple of lifetimes to keep me going. Infinite worlds to explore, journeys to take and characters to meet. Reading is one of my greatest loves.
Music
I mentioned in a previous post my love for music. The nostalgia, companionship and comradery music brings me is one of the great joys of my life. Taking me back to childhood, watching my uncle play guitar and sing at family gatherings, my teenage years where singing and jamming with my friends was the one bright spot in the darkest years of my life, early adulthood where music was the backing track to my biggest milestones, unthinkable achievements and favourite memories.
