Avalonian Trilogy Themes

I’m finally at the point of my trilogy where I feel confident in sharing the key themes explored in my debut works, the Avalonian Trilogy. I held off for a long time, wondering whether it was too soon, whether these would change, whether anyone would even be interested... but I'm finally ready to share the first real bit of information about my current works.

The biggest theme my novels explore is discrimination and prejudice. The fae of Avalon all wield elemental powers. Depending on their bloodline, they can use earth, air, fire, water or energy/electricity as the source of their abilities, summoning variations of that element in both combat and restorative variations. When the bloodlines mix, they combine hybrid abilities, those that seem less natural and have a less clear link to their elemental origins. They're stories are those of demonisation and prejudice, and how they’ve been shamed until help arrives in the unlikeliest form.

Another key theme is that of family. Whether chosen or biological, family plays a very big role for all of the characters in the Avalonian trilogy. Chosen family become a major part in the MCs life after being thrown into a new life and world. Her support network consists of those who help her through that transition. On the other hand, she finds out that she has a brother and spends a good part of book one doing all she can to make Avalon a safe and kind place for him to return to.

While of course there’s much more to the novels than this, these are the big factors that lead the plot and drive the characters toward their goals. These are the things that help them, cause them trouble and make them all want to be better people. It is through these elements that the heart and soul of my characters will be laid bare for all to see.
